COCISD instructional teams, including assistant principals, instructional content specialists and our instructional technology specialist, recently met with Dr. Lisa Severns and Gwen Bryant with Marzano Learning and Performance Management. This session utilized Marzano strategies, an evidence-based system that has been proven to improve the effectiveness of classroom instruction.

Lincoln Junior High 8th Graders visit the University of Houston

48 Lincoln Junior High 8th graders recently toured the University of Houston. Students learned about the various colleges within UH, they were able to see what dorm life is like and ate lunch in the Cougar Woods Dining Hall. "Our hope here at LJH is to instill in students that there are many options after school, and many ways to get there," said LJH Counselor Aimie Patrick. "We are creating opportunities at LJH!"

COCISD Band Program's legacy of success continues to grow

COCISD Band students competed at the 2019 UIL Concert and Sight Reading Contest at Caney Creek High School last week with great success. For the 2nd year in a row, the Coldspring-Oakhurst High School Band and the Lincoln Junior High Symphonic Band received a Superior 1st rating. The LJH Concert Band earned a rating of Excellent in Sight Reading. At the end of this competition season, the COCISD Band Program has earned more 1st Division ratings in the past four years than the total number of 1st Division ratings in school history!

The first round of state testing begins next week, April 9th-12th

Next week, April 9th-12th, marks the first round of STAAR/EOC testing for students around the state. State-wide assessments began in 1980, and the latest version - STAAR - has been around since 2012. This article breaks down the grades and subjects tested, and gives information on how to access the Texas Education Agency (TEA) website to view student requirements, previous tests, test results, etc.

Lincoln Junior High students visit the Texas Capitol in Austin

Seven Lincoln Junior High students visited the state capitol in Austin on Monday, March 18th. Two of the students were able to participate in the Honorary Page Program, which gives students aged 8 to 18 the opportunity to shadow a state senate or representative's page at the capitol building for a day. The others were treated to an insider's tour of the Capitol by State Representative Ernest Bailes. "It was a great experience for our students," said LJH Counselor Aimie Patrick.

New Pre-K wing set to be ready for the upcoming school year

The new COCISD Pre-K wing will be open for the 2019-2020 school year. It will house four large Pre-K classrooms, each with its own restroom and water fountain, as well as new offices for COCISD's Health Services Department and a clinic for the James Street Elementary and the Coldspring Intermediate campuses.
