Colby Blythe » Welcome!!

I want to again thank you in advance for supporting your child and guiding them through this academic year. This will be a very exciting year filled with fun and learning. World Cultures is an excellent course and will really enrich your child’s knowledge of the World. This will be my first year teaching at Lincoln Junior High School and I could not be more excited to start my journey as a Lincoln Junior High Trojan! I obtained degrees in History and Law Enforcement from Ottawa University in Ottawa, Kansas in 2015.  I have great plans for teaching this course and am excited to explore the world with your children this year!!

Tutoring will be on Tuesday before school from 7:00-7:30. This will also be the time that make-up work, extra credit, and tutoring can be done. Students will need to make arrangements to stay for study hall before the end of the day.

My Culture Project

The students will complete a project in the first semester that will allow them to explore their personal culture. This project will consist of a minimum of one (1) typed single space page, a display, and a presentation.

The essay should contain five (5) aspects of the student's home culture with a specific example of each. Culture is a set of beliefs, values, and practices in which people take part. It is simply what you do.  Click here for a quick list of culture aspects Some examples of aspects of culture are celebrations, family traditions, cuisine, religion, language, art, clothing worn, and many others. Each student will have a list of the many aspects of culture. This essay must contain an introduction with a clearly stated thesis statement, body, and conclusion. A bibliography or works cited page should have at least on primary source cited. primary source provides direct or firsthand evidence about an event, object, person, or work of art.

The display will be a visual representation of the essay. It should contain pictures and must contain at least one map, chart, or graph. How the display is arranged will be the student's choice. Some ideas are PowerPoint presentations, Tri-Fold boards, poster boards, or photo albums. This is where the student can let their creativity shine.

The presentation is simply just telling the class about their project. It should be about sixty (60) to ninety (90) seconds long and show that the student has a clear understanding of the aspects of culture.

The rough draft of the essay will be due on Monday 10/23

The final essay will be due on 12/11

Displays and presentations will be presented on 12/13 and 12/14
